This research is part of a PhD in Critical Discursive Psychology. The study looks at the way yogic, Buddhist and Hindu words in Sanskrit, the classical language of India, are used when we talk about psychology, mental health, or personal development in the UK.
Research includes interviews with experts, practitioners, and promoters of yoga and meditation about the origin and impact of their work. This is analysed against the history and cultural position of yoga as it is and as it has been as it made the transition from rural India to the high street health centre and to the pages of YouTube.
